Total Home Energy Bill
Gas and power together, month by month. Most Albertans get one bill (or two) covering both. This shows what to budget for each month.

One bill or two?
In Alberta you can buy gas and electricity from the same retailer and often get one combined bill, but each fuel still carries its own delivery charges from its own wires or pipes company. In ATCO areas, if you've never signed a contract, your default retailer for both is Direct Energy Regulated Services. Its 2026 tariffs still list separate daily admin charges: $0.371/day for gas and $0.558/day for electricity (after the current Rider C7 credit). So "same retailer" doesn't remove a charge by default. A few retailers publish a dual-fuel saving. As of October 2026 we found two: Direct Energy (admin $10.00 instead of $12.50 per site, and $4.19/GJ dual-fuel gas instead of $4.29/GJ) and ACE (about $1.00/month credit on the second site). Easymax, Encor, ATCO Energy and PowerBill list the same bundle and single-fuel rates on the UCA directory (ATCO Energy's 2-year bundle electricity rate is 0.2¢ lower). These savings are against buying both fuels from that same retailer separately, not against your default. To see full costs, compare providers.
Budget billing (equal monthly payments) is offered by many retailers. The "even budget-billing" figure is just your yearly total divided by 12.
How we calculate this
We run the heating model and the electricity model with the same home and add the results month by month. Your appliance choices come from the Electricity page, saved in this browser only. The furnace fan's electricity is counted on the power bill. If both heat and hot water are electric, there's no gas bill and no gas fixed charges.

This is an estimate, not a quote. It combines two estimates, each with its own assumptions (see the Heating and Electricity pages). Real bills depend on the weather, your home and habits, meter-read dates, your retailer and contract, and riders that change. Retailer names are for reference only, not endorsements.
