Is This Used Vehicle Price Fair?

We don't have a dealer pricing feed, and we won't pretend we do. Instead we use two honest checks: listings you find for the same model, adjusted for year and kilometres, and published depreciation ranges from the original price.

Comparable listings (same make, model, trim, drivetrain)

Enter 3–8 asking prices from listing sites near you. The more, the better. The examples below are placeholders. Replace them.

How the check works

  1. Comparables (main check). Each listing you enter is adjusted to your vehicle's year and kilometres. With 4+ listings that vary enough, we estimate how much price changes per model year and per 10,000 km from your own data (least squares). With fewer, we adjust for year using the depreciation range and leave kilometres unadjusted (and tell you).
  2. Depreciation range (sanity check). From the original price, we apply published depreciation ranges for the vehicle's age.

Asking prices aren't selling prices. Listings usually sell for somewhat less, and accident history, trim, options and condition can move the price a lot (Canadian Black Book says accidents can cut value by 15–40%).

What we don't do

We don't claim market data we don't have. There's no live pricing feed, no VIN decoding and no history check. The verdict is only as good as the listings you enter. Before buying, get a vehicle history report, check for liens (Alberta Personal Property Registry), and pay for a pre-purchase inspection.
